Should I go, or wait? singing?

MyStarDream11 asked the question:

An international music school is holding a singing contest, which will lead you to the next step of becoming a singer.
Me and my friends decided to go for a try, but now I doubt if I should… I can’t sing well (seriously). I’m trying to improve myself by some singing tips online, because I cant get a coach or whatever.
My dream is to become a model/actress/singer since i was 11 years old (i’m 14 goin 15 this year), although I’ve never exposed my voice in front of anyone except my family. My voice really is out of pitch, stuffed, and i cant go neither higher or lower scales.
My friends said I should just try out although I might not win. But I think I should only try when I have my best.

What is your opinion? Please help me with some ideas/decisions.
oh and, the competition is on the 22nd of February, i must decide quick because my friends are waiting for my final answer (im in a group with 3 of my friends if I’m joining)

Im a music student and now I have to permorm? :( Worried?

curtismayfield? asked the question:

Im in my school for music and we have to take chorus and another class. This other class last year was okay because we had sight singing and I was good. This year they changed it and we have to sing infront of the class or maybe even performances on stage *dies*
I dont get THAT nervous and I know ppl probably wont laugh, but I dont think anyone there likes me and will roll their eyes or hate me or something. So I feel intimitated and I dont like to perform solos im afraid to look stupid =/

What do you think? Any advice? I dont get super nervous but its very very uncomfortable. I have to sing part of a song, i decided to sing ”I wanna spend a lifetime loving you” tina arena and mark anthony.
and we have to do all kinds of vocal things all year…oh god…ill have a heart attack.,

music class in US high school?

its not me, but who am i? asked the question:

hey, im going on exchange next year, and i was wondering what happens with music students in america?
im guessing most classes will be pretty much the same, but apparently music isnt taught very well in US schools?

at the moment i live in Australia, and i play trumpet, french horn and voice.
i have a half hour horn lesson once a week, which i get taken out of class for. i have band for three hours on the weekend, and orchestra twice a week for an hour before school. i sing in our school chorale (mandatory) for an hour after school, and i also sing in one of our chamber choirs. we are expected to practice every night, for at least 20 minutes.
in music, we have choral class (singing), aural class, music lit class and theory class. we rely heavily on solfa, so i think in solfa as opposed to note names etc.
i hire a horn through SIM, because thats provided to all music students.

whats music like in the US? someone said its really uncool to do music, is that true? will my school have a good program? (my current school is selective for music, we have 3 orchestras, 4 wind bands, 4 single sex choirs/voice ensembles, 1 mixed junior choir, mixed senior chorale, and a mixed selective ensemble, plus of course all the quartets, quintets, and smaller bands.

how often will i do music? will my lessons be private? do i have to buy a horn or is one provided? what kind of things will i be doing in class? do they have the same ensembles we do?

What are some good modern singing movies?

dannii asked the question:

I am really in the mood to watch a good movie with a lot of GOOD singing and music. But not really musicals. For example, Raise your voice, or A Walk to remember. something with more modern actors. A chick flick if you want to say. Please dont say High School Musical either!
those are all good movies but im looking for something not so broadway musical!
